Gabi Mocatta is a freelance journalist who writes and photographs for newspapers and magazines.

Her work has been published in newspapers including: The Guardian Weekly, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Mercury (Tasmania), The Moscow Times, The Russia Journal, The Johannesburg Sunday Times; and magazines including: Australian Geographic, NZ Adventure Magazine, Australian Gourmet Traveller, Vacations & Travel, Scoop Traveller, Professional Life, Outback Magazine, Houses and Home Beautiful. She’s also written for several editions of the SBS World Guide – Australia’s leading geopolitical reference work – and has contributed to guide books on Sydney, Tasmania, Peru and Russia. She is also an author for Lonely Planet guide books. As well, she writes and photographs a monthly home design and architecture supplement for The Mercury.

Gabi has a degree in Modern European Languages, a diploma in Journalism and Master of Arts in Political Science. She speaks Russian, German and Spanish. She is based in Hobart, in Australia’s island state of Tasmania.

Gabi also runs The Moving Mountains Project, which leads not-for-profit treks to Peru and Nepal.
