Gabi Mocatta is a journalist and content maker who works in words and images across a variety of media contexts.
Her print-based journalistic work has been published in newspapers including The Guardian Weekly, The Australian, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Moscow Times, The Russia Journal, The Johannesburg Sunday Times, The Mercury (Tasmania).
Gabi has also written for and magazines including: Australian Geographic, NZ Adventure Magazine, Australian Gourmet Traveller, Vacations & Travel, Great Walks, Outback Magazine, Sanctuary, Houses and Home Beautiful.
Gabi is a guidebook writer for Lonely Planet and Insight Guides, and has written guides to South America, Peru, Ecuador & The Galapagos, Russia, Sydney and Tasmania. She also contributes to Lonely Planet’s Trade and Reference books, and has written for titles including The Food Lover’s Guide to The World, Great Adventures, Calm, Happy, and Great Hikes of the World. Gabi has also written for several editions of the SBS World Guide, Australia’s leading geopolitical reference work. In addition, she has been a prolific contributor to BBC Travel.
Strategic communications and content production also form part of Gabi’s professional practice. She has worked for a range of clients in government, tourism, the Arts, agribusiness and NGOs. Gabi provides insightful and ethical communications solutions that consistently meet and exceed clients’ needs.
Gabi is also a lecturer at the University of Tasmania’s Media School. She teaches a range of practical and theoretical courses in media and communications. Her research here is focused on environmental communication. Gabi is also course author of an online course in Environmental Journalism for the Open School of Journalism in New York.
